To find out information how to detect mycoplasma contamination read our other post: https://www.bionordika.se/detecting-mycoplasma/
Mycoplasma contamination is so common that at some point all cell culture laboratories will have to deal with it. When the cells are valuable or irreplaceable getting rid of mycoplasma is a must, before continuing working with the cells.
Mycoplasma can be eliminated in two ways without them being toxic to the cells cultured. Methods are based on mixtures of antibiotics and antimetabolic agents or agents that rupture mycoplasma cell membranes and it usually takes 3-7 days to clear the infection and the cells should be tested again after the treatment protocol to confirm that it worked.
