Rockland Immunochemicals Inc.´s anti-SARS-CoV Nucleocapsid (N) Protein (RABBIT) Antibody (200-401-A50) is a critical reagent for detection of SARS-CoV-2 in a variety of different immunoassays. SARS-CoV-2 Structure

The SARS CoV-2 is part of a family of RNA encoded coronaviruses. It is also roughly 77% homologous to the SARS-CoV-1 Viral outbreak in 2003. The Nucleocapsid (N) protein has >90% homology to the 2003 SARS-Cov-1 virus N-protein.


A50 – Detecting CoV-2

Rockland produced Rabbit anti-CoV-1 Nucleocapsid protein in 2005 and it was raised to consensus sequence of known CoV-1 nucleocapsid proteins. The reactivity to SARS-CoV-2 has been confirmed by dozens of researchers around the globe and A50 is considered being the key antibody to detect SARS-CoV-2 in infected cells. The detection of CoV-2 has been verified using: ELISA, LF, WB, ICC/IF, IHC, Flow cytometry and IP. Also, diagnostic tests detecting antibody to the nucleocapsid protein of SARS-CoV-2 in patient samples have shown to be more sensitive than spike protein antibody for detecting early infection.


A50 in Nature

A recent Nature Research article authored by Volker Thiel lab (University of Bern) explains how a synthetic genomics platform has been used to clone SARS-CoV-2 and ultimately facilitate the screening of anti-viral compounds. This breakthrough was confirmed using Rockland´s Anti-SARS Nucleocapsid antibody, which detected the presence or absence of viral protein synthesis post SARS-CoV-2 infection both before and after the introduction of a broad-spectrum antiviral medication in Vero E6 cells.
